I believe leisure education is important for certain populations, such as alcoholics, troubled teens, etc. Leisure education is important for these populations because they may not have the skills to participate in positive leisure experiences and they look to seek the destructive leisure experiences which enables them to end up in trouble, either with the law or puts their own health at risk or worse yet their lives at risk. I believe it is also important to have some variety in your leisure experiences. Leisure education can help you discover a balance in your leisure life. When your leisure expriences are focused and narrow in scope, certain activities that you participate in regularly and freely become obligation and job like, and you begin to lose the leisure experience in those activities. Often the leisure experience is not in the activity that you are undertaking, it is in the comradery you share with fellow participants. Leisure education can help bring together people that would not otherwise come together. However we can not truly leisure educate individuals, leisure is an individual experience and must be discovered through personal exploration. Leisure education can help people discover new experiences, however it is the state of mind of the individual that is important in excepting new leisure experiences. Often leisure educaton works more effectively when participants are enjoying the leisure experience provided. By looking at my blogs and investigating the deficiencies in my leisure life, i have noticed that my leisure experiences are narrow in scope and i need to find the time to enjoy the simple things in life, taking a walk, talking with a friend, etc.
